    Privacy Statement

TL;DR: I (really!) value your privacy.

    [Updated 2020-11-30]

Okay, privacy statements are boring, but I probably need one.

Basic information such as your IP address may be collected automatically when accessing the web page. These data include the date and time of the access, the access type, the IP address and the URL of the retrieved page. This data will be deleted automatically after 14 days.

This site uses WordPress, which may utilize some cookies that are relevant for the site to work. I do not use anything like 3rd Party Ads, Google Analytics or other scripts that directly access 3rd party online sources on the client side. As for my understanding of the current laws, I do not even need a dedicated cookie banner, since my web page only utilizes technically required first-party cookies.

If you write an email to me, the provided information including your mail address will be stored on my server and will be visible to me (the web page owner). This is also true if you use the contact form (as you might imagine, this is the reason why contact forms actually exist).

If you write a comment, your email address will get stored if you provide it. If you do this, I can contact you. Note that you don’t have to do that – you can also post comments anonymously without providing your name and email (I’ll try this out for some time – this is subject to change if it gets abused too heavily!). However, your IP address as well as the comment date/time will always be processed and stored when posting a comment to prevent spam and other illegal activities. Email addresses you provide in the respective field will be stored as long the comment does not get deleted. IP and email addresses are only visible to me. The name you provide and the comment itself will be stored as long the comment does not get deleted. The latter are visible to everyone that accesses the page once the comment is approved – as long the comment does not get disabled or deleted.

If you want to request the deletion of your old comments and you are not a registered user, you can request this at any time – just contact me. However, you may have to provide me the IP address you used or verify that you own the mail address assigned to the comment to prove it’s really your comment and not the comment of someone else.

If you use the contact form, you basically write an email to me. That means, your IP address, the date/time of submission will be processed and stored as well as all data you provide in the respective text fields (should be obvious). This data will only be visible to me.

I will not sell your user data or otherwise share it with 3rd parties. However, data submitted via the comment or contact forms may be stored for an indefinite amount of time.

To secure the connection, SSL enryption (HTTPS) is used and enforced via HSTS site-wide.

I’m ensuring the security of this page and the stored user data to the best of my knowledge and belief. However, it is impossible for such a system to be 100% secure. There’s always a minimal risk that a hacker might be able to use some WordPress or Plugin exploit, taking over the server and doing evil stuff. I’ll do my best to prevent this by following best practices such as keeping software up-to-date and not using 123456 as my admin password, but I cannot give any 100% guarantee. Again, to the best of my knowledge and belief. However, if I notice something odd going on there so that user data may have been illegally accessed by unauthorized persons, I have to inform you and the authorities.

Youtube videos are embedded using Embetty from heise online. This means that no user data is shared with Youtube unless you click on an embedded video (and therefore start it). Preview images are pulled from youtube by my server only, so you only communicate (and therefore exchange data) with my server unless you click on the video. In that case, youtube-nocookie.com is used for the playback.

I’m not responsible for anything related to privacy for the other websites I link to, as they are not mine.
